Renowned Poet and Teacher Dr. Bruce Guernsey '62 to Present at MKA
The Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School History Department is honored to present Dr. Bruce Guernsey '62, Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Eastern Illinois University and MKA's 2012 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, as the first presenter in the 2012-13 Hemmeter Lecture Series on Thursday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the MKA Upper School Library, 6 Lloyd Road, Montclair.
Dr. Guernsey will discuss poetry in the writings of Abraham Lincoln. His latest collection of poems, FROM RAIN: Poems 1970-2010, described by Pulitzer Poetry Prize winner Claudia Emerson as “Truly an amazing collection,” will be on sale that evening.
Dr. Guernsey has written fourteen books of poetry, including include Lost Wealth, January Thaw, The Lost Brigade and New England Primer and has had over 200 poems published in prestigious publications such as Poetry, The Atlantic, The New York Times and The American Scholar. Honored with numerous fellowships in writing from the National Endowment of the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council, and the MacDowell Colony, in 2006 Guernsey was invited to edit The Spoon River Poetry Review, a highly respected publication that received Illinois Arts Council Literary Awards in 2008 and 2009.
