Spring Movie Premieres at MKA

26 April 2010

Every two years, The Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School transforms into a production studio and movie set for the making of the Spring Movie. This year's movie, Baker's Dozen, features a student cast (together with a returning alum and a member of the Board of Trustees) and crew directed by writer and faculty member J.C. Svec, and produced by sophomore Mirsada Abdool Raman. This is the ninth Spring Movie to be produced at the school - prior productions have garnered 65 national awards for writing, directing and production design.

Baker's Dozen explores themes of responsibility, leadership and self-understanding. On a directive from the school principal, a cross section of thirteen students are put together to render judgement on the alleged hazing of a girl basketball player. Over the course of several hours, the students discover that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover and not everyone is who they appear to be. In the end, it isn't what the thirteen decide as much as what they've accomplish as a team. Justice indeed depends on them, but what justice is in question?

Screening's take place in the Deetjen Theatre, 6 Lloyd Road, Montclair, on May 13 and 20 at 7:00 p.m. and May 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets $5 (general admission.)
