Students Named National Merit Semifinalists

Congratulations to three MKA seniors who were recently named Semifinalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.  The three, Sarah Cuneo, Andrew Lokker and Andrew Wagner, were among the approximately 16,000 students who will have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more that $36 million that will be offered next spring.  More than 1.5 million juniors nationwide entered the Program by taking the 2009 PSAT/NMQT.

Sarah Cuneo, a lifetime student at MKA, is involved in theatre at school and performed Off Broadway this summer.  She is also president of Ampersand, the school's creative writing club, captain of Walden House, a contributor for The Informer arts paper and involved with Project Hat, a community service group at MKA.

Andrew Lokker is a co-leader of Model UN and a member of the Mock Trial team.  He is the e-news editor of Academy News, the MKA Upper School newspaper, a member of the Jazz Band and is involved in community service with his church.

Andrew Wagner, also a lifetime student at MKA, is an editor of both the Academy News and the Yearbook, He is President of MKA's Gay Straight Alliance, a member of the Mock Trial and Model UN teams and a keen photographer.
