This week, the Primary School celebrates Read Across America

02 March 2016

Students at the Montclair Kimberley Academy Primary School (grades Pre-K through 3) joined millions of their peers across the country to celebrate Read Across America. A nationwide reading awareness event, Read Across America coincides each year with the birthday of beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss. Students dressed up each day in honor of favorite Dr. Seuss books, learned fun facts about Dr. Seuss, participated in a variety of literacy-themed activities and enjoyed a special, Dr. Seuss-themed dessert during Friday's lunch. As a highlight of the celebration, members of the community were invited to read to our students. Each special guest reader shared a favorite story with one of the classes and talked about how reading is important in their everyday lives. The following members of the community joined us as guest readers: Chief John Herrmann (Montclair Fire Department), Tara Chowaniec (Toni's Kitchen), Officer Paul Rusiniak and Officer Travis Davis (Montclair Police Department), Jennifer Snyder (Owner, Little Daisy Bakery), Margot Sage-EL (Owner, Watchung Booksellers), Lisa Sedita (Youth Services Librarian, Montclair Public Library), Karen Shinivar (Montclair Animal Shelter), Tom Nammack (Headmaster, Montclair Kimberley Academy), Ginger Kriegel (Head of Campus, Primary School, Montclair Kimberley Academy), Jill Maza (Head of Libraries, Montclair Kimberley Academy), Dr. Erin Peek (Emergency Medicine, Morristown Medical Center), Shannon Gessler (PAWS (Pound Animal Welfare Society) of Montclair), Laura Torchio (Bike and Walk Montclair), and Florence Rollino (A Lot to Grow).
