Two Upper School Scholars Named National Merit Semifinalists
Upper School seniors Joshua Abrams and Matthew Koffman have recently been named semifinalists in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Now in its 69th year, this nationwide academic competition recognizes high school students for their academic excellence and provides opportunities for college scholarships.
To enter the National Merit Scholarship Program, students take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) in their junior year, with semifinalist recognitions announced in the fall of their senior year. Semifinalists represent less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide. This process serves as an initial screening for the over 1.3 million entrants each year.
Joshua and Matthew were notified by our college counseling office in September and were recognized publicly last month at the Upper School with certificates. They will now advance in the competition as the program looks to offer approximately 7,580 scholarships in 2026.
Congratulations to Joshua and Matthew for being recognized for this outstanding achievement!
