Updates from the MKA Middle and Upper School Campuses
Please see below concerning updates to the MKA Middle and Upper School schedules for the next few days:
Middle School Campus:
- Halloween Assembly: The Halloween Costume Assembly will be held on Friday, November 2nd. Students may wear costumes to school and throughout the school day on Friday.
- Homework expectations: We realize that many families are without power and that may remain the situation for several days. We are not assigning work that students must do outside of school. All work will be done by students in school, during the school day. We will reassess the situation on Monday, November 5th.
- Sports and other after-school activities: There will be no Middle School sports practices or games this week (Thursday and Friday) and no other after school activities. Extended Day will be open as usual for students on those days.
- Relaxed dress code: We are extending the relaxed dress code advisory through Monday and will reassess during the school day on Monday. Friday is a Spirit Friday dress day, but we understand that families may not have access to laundry facilities that would allow students to come to school in Spirit Dress.
- Laptop charging: Due to families being impacted by power outages, MKA will temporarily allow students to bring adapters to school to charge laptops during the day – in designated areas only. Students will not be able to charge laptops in classrooms. Once power is restored to your home, please resume the regular routine of charging laptops each night before coming to school.
Upper School Campus:
The Fall Play: The play will go on as planned. Show times are 7:00 pm this evening and next Thursday, November 8, and 8:00 pm on Friday & Saturday, November 2, 3, 9 & 10. Tickets are available at the door or by emailing JC Svec at jsvec@mka.org.
May Term Meeting : The May Term meeting for seniors & their parents has been moved from Monday, November 5 to Monday, December 10. However, the November 15 meeting for all students & parents interested in winter or spring 2013 foreign travel is on; all families, including those interested in the May Term trips, must attend this meeting to get important logistical and registration details as well as financial information.
Conference Day: Wednesday, November 14 will no longer be Conference Day at the Upper School. Instead, November 14 will be a C day, and classes will be held. The November Conference Day at the Upper School will not be rescheduled; instead, parents who would like to meet with their children’s advisors should contact those advisors directly to schedule a mutually convenient time, keeping in mind that families should have comments in hand before any scheduled meeting with an advisor.
The end of MS 1 has been moved from Friday, November 2 to Friday, November 9. MS1 grades and comments will be mailed home on Friday, November 16.
Laptop charging: Due to families' being affected by power outages, MKA will temporarily allow students to bring in their power adapters to charge laptops during the day, in designated areas only. Students will not be able to charge in classrooms. Once power has been restored to your home, please have your children charge their computer overnight and leave their power adapter at home, per the school's standard policy. Designated charging areas for Upper School students are: the Locker Lounge, Library, Tech Center and Dining Hall.
To all our families:
We hope that all our families are safe during these very difficult times. Please exercise caution in making decisions about travel to school while conditions remain so difficult due to the storm. No student will suffer any penalty for missing school. We will continue to make power available to our parents at the Middle School Campus.
