Upper School Underclassmen Continue to Shine in Academics, Athletics and Arts
The past few weeks have seen individual accomplishments in many arenas for Upper School underclassmen.
Congratulations to junior Laura Polding who was accepted to the highly competitive Governor’s School in the Sciences for study this summer, and to the following students who met with recent success in the National Latin Contest:
In Latin 1 – Freshman Ally DeRosa, Magna Cum Laude and sophomore Ben Stern, Cum Laude. In Latin 2 – Freshmen Mike Powell, Gold Summa Cum Laude and Trevor Freed, Silver Maxima Cum Laude, sophomores Brian Perlmutter, Magna Cum Laude, Lance Barnard, Cum Laude and Natasha Silodor, Cum Laude.
Latin 3 – Junior Mike Custode, Silver Maxima Cum Laude, and sophomores Brandon Wahba, Silver Maxima Cum Laude and Julie Emra, Cum Laude, and in AP Latin, senior Miriam Grossman, Cum Laude.
In athletics, junior fencer Chrissy McIntosh gained 4th Place in the State Individual Championships and was the USFA Metro NYC U19 Section Champion, qualifying her for the upcoming National Championships in the Division 1A, Division 2, Division 3, and Under 19 events. Chrissy was named 2nd Team All-State, her senior team-mate Lily Shepard took 3rd team All-State and both were the named to the NJIFA's All-State Teams and to the Star Ledger's 3rd Team All-State.
Over spring break, freshman gymnast David Frankl became the New Jersey State Champion in Gymnastics, (in age group 14-15). He came in first place in the all around, floor, hi-bar, parallel bars, and pommel horse, second place in rings and fifth place in the vault.
And in the arts, congratulations to sophomore Andrew Wagner who received a prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Gold Key Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts based upon a film photo of the Paris Metro he submitted from his summer study program in Paris with Oxbridge Academic. The piece was exhibited at The Montclair Art Museum last month.
