William Kristol to Discuss The State of American Conservatism at MKA

On Wednesday, January 28 at 7:00 p.m., the Montclair Kimberley Academy History Department presents William Kristol on "The State of American Conservatism" as part of a special two-part Hemmeter History Lecture series.

The editor and publisher of The Weekly Standard and one of the country's most prolific news media correspondents, Kristol is widely recognized as one of the nation's leading political analysts and commentators, most recently appearing as a regular contributor on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Kristol, who received his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Harvard University, taught political philosophy and American politics at both the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard's Kennedy School of Government before serving as chief of staff to Vice President Dan Quayle during the Bush administration and to Secretary of Education William Bennett under President Ronald Reagan.

Prior to founding The Weekly Standard in 1995, Kristol led the Project for the Republican Future, where he helped shape strategy that led to the 1994 Republican congressional victory.He is a member of the board of trustees for the Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, a member of the Policy Advisory Board for the Ethics and Public Policy Center, and a director of the Foreign Policy Initiative.

This will be the first of a two-part event, to be followed at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12 by guest speaker Patrick Deneen discussing "It's Hard to be a Conservative in America."

An expert on constitutional law and politics, Deneen received his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Rutgers University. From 1995-1997 he was a Speechwriter and Special Advisor to the Director of the United States Information Agency, before working as Assistant Professor of Government at Princeton University, then as Associate Professor of Government at Georgetown University, and most recently, joining the faculty of the University of Notre Dame as the David A. Potenziani Memorial Associate Professor of Constitutional Studies two years ago. Deneen is the author and editor of several books and numerous articles and reviews and has delivered invited lectures around the world.
